Northern Lights over Leeds / Yorkshire – Aurora Borealis

Northern Lights in Leeds by Bevan Cockerill Roundhay Park

I didn’t see the Northern Lights when you could see them in Leeds in May so as soon as I heard you could see them again (in October) I jumped in my car and went down to Roundhay Park. So many people had the same idea and as I stood on the top of ‘Hill Sixty’ (the hill near the playground off Princess Avenue) you could feel the buzz of excitement in the air. With the naked eye I could only just make out a faint hint of colour in the sky, it occasionally grew stronger and changed colours but as soon as you took a photo of it with your camera it was just amazing to see how it suddenly popped out of the sky. Truly magnificent, so glad I went out!
