Celebrating Craftsmanship in Furniture Photography

For more than a decade, I’ve had the privilege of photographing the work of Tom Maxwell, a cabinet maker and furniture designer whose craftsmanship has set a benchmark in bespoke interiors. Tom is not just my oldest client but one of my most loyal – someone I’ve worked alongside for over 10 years, documenting everything from small handcrafted items to fully fitted rooms.

From Coffee Tables to Complete Kitchens

The variety of projects has been remarkable. I’ve photographed beautifully simple pieces such as a finely finished coffee table and a cleverly designed stool, as well as larger freestanding furniture like kitchen island units and living room cabinets. At the other end of the scale, Tom’s team have produced full installations: bespoke kitchens, media walls with integrated fireplaces, walk-in wardrobes, and luxury home bars. Each project tells its own story of design ingenuity, precision joinery, and attention to detail – exactly what high-quality furniture photography should capture.

Collaborations That Enhance Design

Tom Maxwell’s work is often part of larger collaborative projects. My photography has helped showcase designs brought to life through partnerships with respected suppliers and designers. From fireplaces supplied by Stonehouse Fireplaces and British Fires, to specialist worktops, seating and materials from Canvasman, Stone Connection, Oaksbridge Fabrication, Hanson Plywood, James Latham and Decormax.

Interior designers also play a vital role in shaping these spaces, with Tom frequently realising concepts for studios such as Arlo Interior Design, Monkey and Pickle, Jane Thompson Interiors, Furnish and Fettle, and Judith Harrop Interior Design. My role is to capture these projects in a way that highlights the furniture within the wider design, showing how craftsmanship, materials and styling come together.

Photography for Cabinet Makers and Designers

Working with Tom has allowed me to refine a style of bespoke furniture photography that is both versatile and consistent. Whether it’s product photography using a portable studio setup for smaller pieces, or on-location kitchen photography and interior furniture photography, the aim is always to bring out the quality of materials and the precision of design.

By photographing Tom’s projects in detail – from close-ups of textures and finishes to wide shots of whole rooms – I provide imagery that communicates quality to potential clients, interior designers, and homeowners looking for luxury interiors.

Looking Back, Looking Forward

As I prepared a gallery of images from over the years, I’m reminded of just how varied and inspiring Tom Maxwell’s projects have been. My main highlights include a walk-in wardrobe, a complete dressing room, multiple home bars, media walls with integrated fireplaces, and multiple bespoke kitchens – all perfect examples of how photography can capture not just the furniture, but the lifestyle it creates.
