Luisa and John were married on Sunday 26 May 2013 at the impressively lavish Battersea Arts Centre, a Victorian Grade II listed building which was originally opened as Battersea Town Hall. They had a humanist ceremony which reflected their belief that morality comes from within, whilst showing kindness and consideration towards others and accepting responsibility for their own lives, whilst also recognising their responsibility to the whole world. The service took place in the majestic grand entrance hall and up the impressive marble staircase where guests where able to look out onto the service from above. The service was refreshingly different yet thoroughly enjoyable to watch and be a part of with a host alternative speeches and obvious love and respect for each other.
After the service the party moved over to the Battersea Mess & Music Hall, where they had decorated the fun and quirky venue with bunting and open light bulbs which stretched, back and forth, across the width of the auditorium. The wedding party sat at the far end of the room with their guests sat at four long banquet hall tables garnished with individual table cloths which complimented the vintage flock wallpaper of the Mess to enhanced the entire ambiance.
I set up my alternative Photo Booth experience in the chill out area away from the crowds and hung my black backdrop behind a black leather couch that was at the venue. I then set up two lights at either side of the sofa and allowed guests to help themselves to the large collection of fancy dress outfits from cowboys and pirates to vikings and superheroes. When the guests where dressed up they sat down in small groups to have their photographs taken in some thoroughly ridiculous outfits. I took group photos and have their photograph instantly show up on my laptop screen allowing them to quickly see what they look like in large format and this gets everyone falling around laughing. They are then available for sale on my website if the guests want to buy a copy of their own.
Being a Leeds based wedding photographer it was great to be in another city and I got some great comments about the whole set up. Below are a few photos from the weekend and mainly from the alternative PhotoBooth experience. A larger collection of the weekend is here if interested.
