Light Night Leeds is one of my favourite events of the year, a shoot when I try to be creative when surrounded by some very talented artists creating super impressive Art in the Dark installations.
I was based at Wellington Place this year where they donned a centre piece monolith displaying a majestic light display called Odyssey. I met Jude from the artistic duo Greenaway & Greenaway who’d created the piece, after seeing his daytime photos of the display I wish I’d arrived before sunset. The Odyssey stood in front of a reflective fountain outside 4 Wellington Place and the light display was complemented with a constant mist spilling out across the landscape that helped create a fantastic atmosphere for the large crowds that gathered to take it’s photo.
I also captured a neon light display by Emergency Exit Arts, a silent disco and UV Face Painting by Claire. A lot to see in this quickly developing hub of Leeds where they have now opened the Monk Bridge, a viaduct link to apartment blocks across the River Aire. A piece called ‘Droplets’ by Ulf Pedersen sat proud within the newly appointed Viaduct Urban Garden and projected water droplet sounds to enhance the visual experience of circular droplet lights beating in unison to replicate a drop of water in the green space, a pool of tranquility that has been created on top of an industrial bridge linking the city living apartments from The Junction to the busy offices at Wellington Place.
