Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax asked me to bring Google Street View inside their vibrant, interactive space — a museum designed entirely around learning through play for children and families.
The project was completed over several visits, working carefully around the natural flow of visitors throughout the day. To respect people’s privacy, I let the public know that faces would be blurred so no one would be recognisable. If anyone felt uncomfortable, I simply waited until they were finished in the space before photographing. The museum staff also let people know I was working, which helped everything run more smoothly.
A full virtual tour was created and is now live on Google Maps, allowing families to explore the museum remotely and get a feel for what to expect. Because Eureka! is such a hands-on, child-focused venue, the tour offers just enough of a glimpse to highlight the atmosphere without giving anything away.
Alongside the tour, I also delivered a set of still photographs to support marketing and promotional use. These covered key exhibition areas and helped to communicate the character of the space across different platforms.
It was a brilliant experience working in such a lively, creative environment. I’m sure I’ll be back with my own family many times.
